Tadej Kenig is the principal clarinetist of the Slovenian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra in Ljubljana and an Associate Professor at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. He completed his undergraduate studies with Professor Slavko Goričar and earned his postgraduate Solistendiplom with highest honors at the Hochschule für Musik der Stadt Basel under Professor François Benda.

He is a recipient of numerous first prizes at national and international competitions, including the overall victory at “Marco Fiorindo” competition in Turin, Italy, in the solo clarinet category.

As a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, Kenig performs across Europe, Asia, and South America – including Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, the UK, Brazil, India, and the Balkans. He has performed with ensembles such as the Slovenian Philharmonic, Basel Symphony Orchestra, Bratislava Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Neophonia and Cantus Ensemble, under conductors like Marko Letonja, Stefan Sanderling, Othmar Maga, Szymon Bywalec, and Simon Krečič.

Kenig is a regular guest at major contemporary music festivals such as Biennale Zagreb, Electromediaworks Athens, and S.O.U.N.D. Scotland, collaborating with some of the world’s leading performers and composers including Felix Renggli, Heinz Holliger, Roberto Fabbriciani, Krzysztof Penderecki, Rohan de Saram, Jürg Henneberger, Jürg Wyttenbach, and many others.

His discography includes Dialogue de l'ombre double (2007), Molly Brallaghan, Quintet Artvento and Friends (2008), Vivid Air (2010), and Alojz Ajdič: Works for Clarinet (2010), Atelje DSS (2012)...

An active pedagogue, he has taught and lectured at music academies and universities across Europe: the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, UDK Berlin, Basel Academy of Music, Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, the University of Novi Sad, the University of Aberdeen, and other international education centers.

He is the founder and artistic director of the Glasbena Fabr’ka Festival and the BICM Ljubljana the Biennial International Clarinet Masterclasses, which bring together some of the world’s most respected clarinetists and teachers.

Kenig’s artistic voice, technical excellence, and interpretative depth are regularly praised by critics both in Slovenia and internationally, placing him among the most compelling clarinetists of his generation.
